 This section describes the update of the next system (inverters, nx interface and accessories) using the nx interface and nextOS

Please go to the Update section in the nextOS main menu and simply follow the instructions. If the device is connected to internet, the upgrade will be straightforward. The USB upgrade is still available for those devices that are not connected to internet. 

The updating process can take between 3 and 15 minutes. NEVER disconnect the battery during an update. During this process, the installation is stopped and the AC power supply is interrupted. Choose the proper moment to process an update.

When multiple elements are connected to the nx interface and to the next3 by the communication bus, it is possible that the software versions are not compatible. It is highly recommended to update the software of all components in the system to guarantee all functionalities. Therefore, before starting the setup of the device, please make sure that all the components in the system have the latest software version. 

Update procedure

The remote update is available from v1.2.0.0 when the device is connected to internet (both with ethernet cable or dongle wifi). Click the “search update” button, the interface will identify if an update is available online.

Once the update is identified, the current and available versions information is shown. The update of the system is ready, press the “Start update” button.

You will see a message to inform that the system will restart during the update procedure. Please be aware that the next3 will turn off and on during the update process. Disconnecting the loads before the update process is therefore advised. 

The update is performed in several steps. First, the next interface is updated and restarted. Once the next interface update is finished the update of the other devices in the system is also performed subsequently and automatically. The system will restart again after all the devices are updated.

Please bear in mind that after restarting, the devices will be in off mode, therefore powered but not running. You will need to turn on the devices using the system “ON/OFF” button in the next interface.


USB update procedure

Download the latest software version from our website. Go to the Downloads section, click on Software updates in the next product and download the “next3 system update”. Unzip the file and copy the “next_vX.Y.Z.A.stub” file on an usb key at the root of the key. Make sure that the copy process is finalized before removing the USB from the computer. We advise to eject the unit to avoid any file corruption issue.

Read the pdf document included in the zip file containing the next3 software update procedure.  Insert the USB key in the next interface.

After the check, the interface will identify if an update is available. The current and the available update can be seen on the right side. An information will be displayed in case of software incompatibility. If there is no update available, you can click “Search USB” to confirm if the update file is on the USB unit.

Note: The usb key must not be removed until the end of the updating process. If for some reason the updating process is interrupted, please restart it and make sure to let the process finish.

You will see a message to inform that the system will restart during the update procedure. Please be aware that the next3 will turn off and on during the update process. Disconnecting the loads before the update process is therefore advised.

Why update your system

The next3 is a connected device, to ensure the security and to have access to all the latest functionalities of your system please keep your system up to date. It is mandatory to update your device.

Make sure that the devices have the latest software update. Please find below the latest software version available with the release notes, followed by the previous versions' notes for reference and information. Do not hesitate to contact our support team in case of any doubt or question. 

Next software system update v1.3.1.1  

This update contains various new features, security updates, bug fixes and is mandatory for every next user.

Important information: This release improves the stability of transfer relay behaviour after several issues were reported. We advise to upgrade the system to avoid potential issues in the future. It comes along with several new improvements, additions and minor corrections.

However, when updating from a previous version (v0.6.0.0 or previous) the upgrade will perform a parameter reset and the configuration assistant will guide you through the system settings.​  Contact your installer to configure your system according to the local regulation.

Next software system update v1.2.30.0  

This update contains various new features, security updates, bug fixes and is mandatory for every next user.

Next software system update v1.2.18.0  

This update contains various new features, security updates, bug fixes and is mandatory for every next user.

AC coupling frequency control
The new software includes the full management of AC coupling sources (for example existing solar inverters). The frequency control algorithm permits to limit the production if required by the system in offgrid mode (during a blackout, grid disconnection or full offgrid setup).

Important information: 

This release fixes a bug where full memory was not properly detected on the gateway, which could lead to a potential loss of datalog information. We recommend updating your system without delay in order to protect it from any loss of data. 

This software release includes: 

  • Implemented AC coupling support with frequency shift control algorithm for limiting the production
  • Added simplified settings for AC inputs tolerances, mainly used for gensets configuration
  • New functionality for battery periodic charging or discharging
  • Added several options to use the command input based on battery parameters (e.g. current limits or SOC limits)

Next software system update v1.2.0.0  

This update contains important new features, parameter corrections, fixes detected bugs and is mandatory for every next user.

Important information: Multi-unit systems with 2 next3 in parallel 
 The new software allows the installation of 2 next3 in parallel in the same installation, with the same or independent batteries.

Software update from internet
 From this version the software update can be done directly from internet if the device is connected. The interface will serach and identfiy the update online. The usb update process is still available for non connected installations. 

New phase balancing function
 A new function to easily configure the phase balancing with 3 presets: activated, deactivated and smart mode. By default the smart mode manage the phase balancing compensating system performance. 

This software release includes: 

  • New management of batteries errors and undervoltage conditions

Next software system update v1.1.0.0  

This update contains important new features, parameter corrections, fixes detected bugs and is mandatory for every next user.

New compatible wifi dongle accessory for the nx interface 
 The v1.1.0.0 software brings wifi compatibility to connect the nx interface to the internet, using the new wifi dongle accessory. The configuration is very simple, compatible with WPA and WPA-2 networks from the configuration page which displays the connection status.

MPPT startup voltage at 200V
 Another interesting novelty is the new starting voltage of the MPPT algorithm, which is lowered down to 200V, making it easier to configure panel strings with lower voltages and allowing higher solar operation in contexts of less favorable conditions.

This software release includes: 

  • Lowered MPPT start-up voltage to 200V instead of 350V
  • Fixed a bug daily energies in datalog at zero

This update contains important security corrections, fixes detected bugs and is mandatory for every next user.
In addition, this software release includes the following new functionalities:
- Major software upgrades are only available at expert or higher level. Basic users can’t launch a major software update requiring to restart system configuration
- Configuration assistant will appear automatically after a major software update
- Fix restart bug after some major software upgrades 
- Implementation of line to line voltages in addition to phase to line voltage for grid code management and overload detection.
